IoT

IoT

The Internet of Things refers to our ability to view, monitor and record data from just about anything connected to the interweb.
Every device on the Internet is assigned an Internet Protocol (IP) address for identification and location definition.

With the Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) allowing 128-bit (longer) addresses, we can now apply IP addresses to everything – refrigerators, vehicles, geolocation tags, doorphones etc.

The IoT is the network behind building management automation, lighting control, temperature control, asset control, energy management and security. For example, in:

Assisted living facilities

Patients and residents can be located with pendants and alerts sent to staff if they stray beyond a certain area (geolocation).

Asset control

Wireless tags allow facility managers to track the location of an organisations assets, delivering benefits in productivity (finding things quickly), reducing theft and loss and improving maintenance standards.

Access control

Video door entry systems can send an image of the person(s) arriving at an entrance and log the the details of that entry.

Energy management

Control and measure energy consumption in commercial and industrial premises – automatically and/or manually from onsite and/or remotely.

Near Field Communications:

The communication protocols that enable portable devices such as smartphones, to establish communication by bringing them within 4 cm (2 in) of each other – creates another area for building management to enable access control to buildings, rooms and equipment assets.
This raises many issues around what to do with the additional data from each of these devices.
Connecting your IoT can be achieved by both wireless and wired technology.
Evotec Power and Data can ensure your IoT input/output travels smartly and does not bottleneck with your other voice and data networking traffic.
Our solutions cover the full range of connectivity and network traffic factors such as cabling, routing, switching, wireless and DECT base stations and fixed and wireless voice and data carriage.
